NARS Cosmetics – Jungle Red

This red is no joke.
This red is no joke.

Jungle Red by NARS Cosmetics is described as a semi-matte bright red and it is bright. This might be off-putting for some especially if you’re new to red lipstick, but I say go for it if you think it might work for you.

Since this lipstick is so bright I decided just to wing out my eyeliner, fill my brows and be done. This is such a serious red that I don’t want to take too much attention from it with eyeshadow.

I'm such a winged liner novice but this turned out okay.

This lipstick is semi-matte so it’s relatively opaque. You have to make sure you exfoliate and perhaps wear a lip balm underneath if you have problems with dryness. I thought I had exfoliated thoroughly and found out the hard way that I didn’t. It seems like it’s unforgiving on dry, flaky lips so don’t make my mistake.

So is this a red you’ll add to your arsenal? Let me know in the comments.

Jungle Red retails for $26 and is sold at Sephora, Sephora.com, narscosmetics.com, and department stores.

Gotta Get Em All? Maybelline ColorSensational Color Elixirs

I’ve been on a lip product kick lately. It started out with a couple of Maybelline ColorSensational Color Elixirs and now I’m up to 12 in these last few weeks. The lovely Aprill Coleman at Glitter Gloss Garbage reviewed them a few months ago and when I saw them in my store I snatched them up and just couldn’t stop. I think I kept buying them to see if the next gloss was as good, pretty, pigmented, etc as the last one. I found out in some cases yes and in some cases no.

There’s also the #nobarelips30 challenge created by Keiko Kavari. The challenge gave me a reason to buy stuff and the fact they were drugstore products lulled me into thinking it wasn’t that bad. Some of them were even buy 1 get 1 50% off. Who doesn’t love a deal, right? Why would I pass that up? *straight face* Judgeth me not.

In any case, my kinda sorta hoarding tendencies loss is your gain.

These Maybelline Color Elixirs retail for $8.99, but I was in Walgreens recently(read: yesterday lol) and they’re having a buy 1 get 1 50% sale on them until December 7. These glosses go on really easily and it’s a wand instead of a brush, which I like. They’re not goopy or sticky. And while pigmented don’t stain.

The #NoBareLips30 Challenge

A few days ago I came across Keiko Kaveri and her #nobarelips30 challenge on twitter. The challenge consists of not having a bare lip for 30 days and taking a photo of the gorgeous lippie of your choice. Keiko Kaveri writes here on her blog about her motivation for the challenge.

Quick Facts

  • #nobarelips30 is 11/16/2013-12/16/2013
  • You have a choice between swatching on your lips or hand.
  • The hashtag #nobarelips30 is live on across social media so tag your photos on twitter, instagram, facebook, etc so everyone can see.
  • You don’t have to wear a different shade everyday(but it would nice if you have it).

I think this is a really cool challenge so I’m jumping now even though it’s already started. Feel free to do the same and show off those pretty lip products.
