When I began this blog almost 3 years ago there were only a handful of brands that made blue lipstick while everyone else was stuck on pinks and reds. Blue was unconventional. Fast forward to now and brands from Anastasia Beverly Hills to NYX have some version of blue. So whose is the best? And if you’re not wearing blue lipstick, why not?
The praise of grace /or forgiveness in the face of vitriolic racism perpetuates the idea that anger is not a valid response. Anger is a valid response to racism. I reject the idea that someone has to turn the other cheek or hold someone’s hand while experiencing the pain inflicted by that same person in order to be seen as sympathetic. The people who perpetuate that idea are insecure with their own conduct, racism or otherwise, and want that same evenhanded approach to their misdeeds. This is a tactic to continue the status quo. This is a way to make consequences not that bad and I’m not here for it. This brings me to Ugandan model Aamito Lagum and something I saw on glamour.com. Continue reading The Empty Praise of Grace→
The Maybelline New York Colorblur by Lipstudio is a cream matte pencil with a blurring smudger that allows you to create different looks with the product. You can do a full-on bold look or use the smudger for barely there look.
I’m not that big on the smudger. Some of the blurred look cool like the reverse ombre but I’m not big on the barely there looks. However, I like the application of this product with one caveat that I’ll touch on in a few.
Orange Ya Glad
Partner In Crimson
I really liked the way Plum Please and Partner In Crimson wore. While there is some transfer during eating and drinking it doesn’t wear off in a way that makes me feel like I have to start with a bare lip to reapply it. They weren’t drying, heavy or tight on my lips like some matte products can be. It does apply better with a bare lip so keep that in mind if you tend to need lip balm. My only beef with it was that Orange Ya Glad gave me hell because it made me look like I didn’t exfoliate my lips. It’s pretty much unwearable for me at this point but I love the color.
There are 7 colors besides these so I will be picking up one or two more at some point. I might even do a giveaway so be on the lookout.
Maybelline New York Colorblur by Lipstudio($8.99) is available at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, CVS and other retailers.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m getting ready to go out I MUST have some music playing. I think tonight is a Feeling Myself kind of night. So turn this up and bodyroll like your life depended on it because you know you’re dope.
After months and months of waiting for Melt to restock some of their popular colors I was able to get Blow and DGAF this month. Blow is a pretty matte green and DGAF is dark matte blue. Unfortunately, DGAF is sold out again with no clear restock date. I suggest signing up for the Melt newsletter and pay attention to Melt’s social media accounts for any updates. Now, on to the photos.
