RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream

I’ve been working on building a skincare regimen lately. I’m happy with my cleanser choices(I alternate between a couple). I like my moisturizer as well. However, it occurred to me that I didn’t have an eye cream.

At this point I’m not battling major signs of aging. I don’t really have puffiness, crow’s feet, or dark circles. I count myself lucky. I do have some fine lines under my eye that I’m not stressing about because they just seemed inevitable and not worth fighting. That doesn’t mean I couldn’t benefit from a preventative measure. Enter the RoC® Retinol Correxion Eye Cream.

My Take

The first time I used it was after my nighttime cleansing routine. I applied it after my night cream and went to sleep. When I woke up the skin under my eye was softer and it was softer than usual. This made me realize that I possibly missed that area regularly when I applied moisturizer or just needed something stronger.

I’ve used it under my make-up and haven’t had any problems. Some people are sensitive to retinol, but I haven’t felt any irritation so perhaps I’m not one of those people. If you are sensitive, RoC® makes milder formula of this eye cream so you don’t have to be left out.

You really don’t need that much to make a difference. Make sure you’re being gentle with that area as you dab it on. The skin around our eyes is more delicate than the rest of our face so it pays to be as careful as possible since that’s where age tends to show up.

RoC® Retinol Correxion Eye Cream retails for $22.99 and can be found at Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, Ulta and various online retailers.

L'Oreal Silkissime Eyeliner Review

A recent CVS trip yielded new eyeliner from L’Oreal Paris. The Silkissme by Infallible Eyeliner boasts of a rich, silky formula that “glides on like silk for a soft and luxurious line with up to 16 hours of intensity.” It’s also ophthalmologist tested and suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. These are all good things right?

Now I don’t have sensitive eyes and I don’t wear contacts so I can’t speak to the truth of that claim. I put it on my waterline and I didn’t have any immediate problems. I hope that holds true for anyone with those sensitivities. What I can tell you is that it does glide on easily and it is very pigmented. It may be as pigmented as some of the more expensive eyeliners on the market.

As a make-up lover I have high-end things that I like and drugstore things that I like, but there are some things that I prefer to be high-end only. Eyeliner is one of them. Most of the drug store liners I tried were hard. Hard to put on, hard to sharpen well, hard to love. This Silkissime liner is making me rethink that.

This liner gave me a smooth line. It didn’t pull my skin when I put it on. I didn’t have to press hard to get it show up. It was soft. This liner is $9.79 at my CVS so it could be more or less depending on where you are.

With other high-end liners costing almost $20 this price is great and you’re getting a high quality product in my opinion. My only beef is that there aren’t more colors since the pencil is so great.

So have you tried it? Are you going to try it? Let me know.

Milani Eyeshadow Primer: A Bargain Eyeshadow Primer Alternative?

Milani Eyeshadow Primer $6.39 at CVS
Milani Eyeshadow Primer $6.39 at CVS

I was on the hunt for something new to try so I stopped in CVS and purchased a couple of things. One of those things was Milani Eyeshadow Primer. I’m generally an Urban Decay Primer Potion kind of girl, but I wanted to give this a shot. Drugstore brands have improved a lot so I wanted to see if this primer could compare to a more expensive brand.

I think the Milani Eyeshadow Primer is a legit alternative to UDPP or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. After 8 hours of wear my eyes look basically the same. The product is similar in texture and color to UDPP and TFSI so if you use either one or are on a budget this is worth a shot.  You’ll pay $6.39 for Milani’s primer versus paying anywhere from $12-$24 for UDPP or TFSI depending on size /or brand.

I applied the primer and eyeshadows from the Naked palette around 8:30 am. This is a couple hours after that.

Once upon a time finding a drugstore product that was a similar quality to a department store product was wishful thinking. Now this doesn’t mean that they were terrible, but just that you could tell the difference between them. However, as time goes on the drugstore brands are catching up and maybe, just maybe leaving some of the department stores behind. Time will tell though.

Have you tried this primer? If use a more expensive brand do you think you’ll give this one chance?

Milani Eyeshadow Primer can be purchased at most drugstores and milanicosmetics.com

NARS Cosmetics – Jungle Red

This red is no joke.
This red is no joke.

Jungle Red by NARS Cosmetics is described as a semi-matte bright red and it is bright. This might be off-putting for some especially if you’re new to red lipstick, but I say go for it if you think it might work for you.

Since this lipstick is so bright I decided just to wing out my eyeliner, fill my brows and be done. This is such a serious red that I don’t want to take too much attention from it with eyeshadow.

I'm such a winged liner novice but this turned out okay.
I’m such a winged liner novice but this turned out okay.

This lipstick is semi-matte so it’s relatively opaque. You have to make sure you exfoliate and perhaps wear a lip balm underneath if you have problems with dryness. I thought I had exfoliated thoroughly and found out the hard way that I didn’t. It seems like it’s unforgiving on dry, flaky lips so don’t make my mistake.

So is this a red you’ll add to your arsenal? Let me know in the comments.

Jungle Red retails for $26 and is sold at Sephora, Sephora.com, narscosmetics.com, and department stores.

LUXE OIL Cocoa Deluxe Whipped Butter

Love this cocoa butter so much!
Love this cocoa butter so much!

This is the Cocoa Deluxe Whipped Butter from LUXE OIL. It’s quickly becoming my go-to moisturizer for these brutal winter months. I found out about the product via twitter. Krissy, the butter’s creator and beauty blogger at Addicted To All Things Pretty wanted her readers to have something to fight the war against eczema and dry skin. This lovely whipped butter is her weapon.

“Cocoa Deluxe” Whipped Cocoa Butter is a decadent cocoa butter blend that’s sure to bring back nostalgic memories! Whipped to perfection, this butter blend contains pure raw cocoa butter and our signature LUXE OIL oil blend.
With a slower absorption time it also makes a great massage cream. (from website)

The 8oz butter retails for $15 and is worth every penny. I’ll be honest, I tend to not like the typical cocoa butter smell. However, this butter smells like heavenly chocolate. Along with Coconut Oil, Safflower Oil, Sea-buckthorn Oil, Avocado Oil, and Olive Oil, the raw cocoa butter has been whipped to a velvety texture. It quickly melts into your hands so it can be applied to the skin easily. The butter also functions as a hair moisturizer.

I’m really happy with my purchase of the Cocoa Deluxe Whipped Butter. My butter was packaged well and got here on time. I can see myself using this and other LUXE OIL products on myself and my family for the long haul.

Another Naked 3 Look

I wanted to show this look with my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. Some people seem to love it and others seem to think the palette just okay. I like the palette but it’s definitely ranked at 3 compared to the original Naked palette and Naked 2.

Naked 3 with Maybelline Color Elixir in Glistening Amber

Sidenote: Before I stopped on this shade of gloss I tried a sheer grape, sheer pink, and a reddish color. I’ve seen one woman pair it with black lipstick for an edgier look, but I didn’t want to do that. With all that said, what lipsticks, glosses, etc are you pairing with Naked 3?

OCC Batty Liptar – Review

Can you see the glitter? Too bad I didn't see it on my lips.
Can you see the glitter? Too bad I didn’t see it on my lips.

I bought OCC Liptar in Batty because I love black lipstick but I ended up being disappointed. I used my lip brush to apply it and it didn’t work. I used my finger to apply and it still didn’t work. Unfortunately it’s just not as opaque as I hoped it would be. It also sunk into the lines in my lips. However, once I put it on top of another black lipstick it looked better.

Top: OCC Batty alone Bottom: Batty on top of MUFE 50 Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick
Top: OCC Batty alone Bottom: Batty on top of MUFE 50 Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick

I hoped for a glitter effect since that’s what it looked like in the tube but it just wasn’t meant to be. I’m sure the shiny effect I achieved on top my Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense lipstick could be achieved with a glittery lip gloss so this is really a bust for me. I would take it back but I tossed the shipping receipt. *cue sad violins*

So have you tried Batty? What did you think?

Obsessive Compulsive Liptar in Batty retails for $18 and can be found at Sephora, Sephora.com, occmakeup.com

Don’t Fear The Red Lip

Nars Red Lizard Lipstick
Nars Red Lizard

I love red lipstick. This blog is called Bury Me In Red Lipstick after all so it makes sense. However, I know everyone isn’t quite there. For one reason or another some are apprehensive about red lipstick. I’m here to say there’s no need. So here are 5 tips to help you jump in.

1. Leave fear at the door. There’s something out there for you. You are not limited by your skintone. From orange-reds to deep wines it’s out there.

2. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Whether you go to the makeup counter or try it on at home, prep your lips for color. Banish dry skin with a lip scrub or toothbrush so you can get a clear view of how the color looks on your lips.

3. Add liner and mascara. A bare face with a red lip may be jarring to see for the first time. The liner and mascara will give you a glimpse into a finished look and help you better assess how it looks.

4. Return policies are you friend. Trial and error may seem daunting and expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Ulta, Sephora, and drug stores have good return policies. If you try something and it doesn’t look right take it back. Don’t let it gather dust in a drawer and cause you to get frustrated because you feel like you’ve wasted money.

5. Have fun. Experiment with finishes, stains, glosses. As long as you keep a positive outlook you’ll find something that works.

5 Tips For Wearing Red Lipstick

So will you try a red lipstick anytime soon?

Make A Beauty Resolution for 2014

2013 will be coming to a close in a couple of weeks. Someone has probably asked you about your New Year’s resolution or they will be asking very soon. Our answers will range from mundane to exceptional. And I hope when 2014 comes to a close we’ll look back proudly on the accomplishments that were set into motion at the end of 2013. But what about a beauty resolution? Have you thought about making one for yourself?

2014 could be the year you watch Youtube videos until you get that contouring thing right. Or you could branch out and try a brand(drugstore or high-end) you usually pass up when you’re browsing. This could be the year you tackle one of your beauty fears like getting professionally waxed. You could even resolve to set aside time to pamper yourself or *gasp* limit your purchases.

"Girl what? Limit my purchases?
“Girl what? Limit my purchases?

The sky is really the limit with this and you don’t have to tell anyone unless you want to. This is really about making a conscious effort to not get a beauty rut and take care of yourself. I think most of us know what we need/want to do, but we just have to give ourselves the freedom to do it and put in the effort.

One of the things I’d like to do is find a less pink nude lipstick to wear as an alternative to the pinkish nude Nars Dolce Vita. I’m very fond of the beigey nude look and I’d like to see if it I can pull it off. There’s always the possibility that I can’t, but I have to give it a shot right? And that’s what I’m talking about, going out on your own limb for beauty.

So do you have beauty resolution?
