So let’s dead this. You need sunscreen everyday. EVERYDAY. Indoors, outdoors, while working in an office, at a counter, handing out flyers, whatever. Put it on. Reapply as needed and be active in preventing skin cancer and excessive aging of your skin.
Now, maybe you’re wondering where this is coming from. Today, The Cut put out an interview with Salma Hayek about her new CVS beauty line, Nuance Salma Hayek. In the article she talks about how she feels about beauty, her morning routine, and her products. All dope until she says “I am completely against SPF. Completely.” When probed why she goes on to say “90% of the time, you don’t need it because you are working in an office indoors.” We’re not going to get into the fact that many of us don’t work in an office or that statistics like that are generally made up. Perhaps she’s speaking solely about herself but even if she is this misleading information for the consumer.
“While it’s understood that taking sun safety precautions during the summer months is a must, many people don’t realize they need to protect their skin year-round – even when indoors. The temperature may drop and the sunlight may be less intense, but the amount of ultraviolet (UV) solar radiation that reaches earth remains very strong, even during cooler weather.”(skincancer.org)
That’s from The Skin Cancer Foundation, “the only global organization solely devoted to educating the public and medical community about skin cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.” Now look I’m not going to front and say that I wear it every single day. I get sick, I forget, I fall short, HOWEVER, I’m not going to tell you that you don’t need it and anyone who’s telling you don’t need it should be questioned and possibly avoided.
With all that said below are some sun protection products I’ve reviewed and a storify from Aprill Coleman of Glitter Gloss Garbage with 5 Drugstore Sunscreens for the Face. Peep those links and protect your skin year-round.
