Yay or Nay? 2015 Pantone Color of the Year

The choice for 2015 Pantone Color of the Year dropped a couple of days ago and it’s Marsala, “a naturally robust and earthy wine red.” If you’re big on trends then this is the color to watch out for whether it’s make-up, fashion, or home decoration.

While last year’s Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid, was described as “vibrant and inviting”(online.wsj.com), Marsala is getting a cool reception from some. I’m not turned off by the color, but I’m not running out to buy anything either(yet). I did want to see if I had anything that was already in that color family. And it turns out that I do. NARS Cosmetics’ Dolce Vita blush.

Sephora has already curated products that fall under the Marsala umbrella so pop over there if this is a must have color for you. I think it can work in different areas of the face rather than being limited to one feature or another. So whether I buy anything or not, I’m excited to see how companies respond to it.

Will you be adding any Marsala-like products to your stashes?

  1. As an artist, I’m not here for this color at all and would like a ballot recount. It really reminds me of the tone/family of shades Victoria’s Secret used in their fall line this year. Everything seemed pensive, sad and emo (like it was designed in late 1990’s Seattle) – navy, olive, marsala, mauve, grey, etc.

I wear rainbows, so I’m totally biased LOL.

    1. LOL @ ballot recount. I can see what you mean though because it’s not a bright, festive color like last year’s color. It feels like a safe color for fall and winter, but I wonder how it will play in the spring and summer.
